Aunt Dimity Digs In

This was another fun mystery in the Aunt Dimity series by Nancy Atherton.  In this fourth installment, titled Aunt Dimity Digs In, Lori finds herself an overwhelmed and exhausted new mother.  Just as she is at her breaking point Aunt Dimity intervenes with the help of the Pym sisters, who show up with the perfect nanny.

Francesca is just what Lori needs to give her a little perspective in her voyage of motherhood.  I laughed over the things Lori does to protect her stationary infants.  She hides the key to the medicine cabinet, and then forgets where she put it.  She has all the corners of the cottage wrapped in cotton padding.  The child proof latches on the cupboards are so effective that she and Bill might just starve to death.

In the mean time the village is about to erupt into civil war over the use of the schoolhouse.  Peggy Kitchens has been planning a Village Fair for months, and she needs the schoolhouse to hold it.  An archaeologist has discovered some Roman artifacts and is busy using the schoolhouse for a storage area.  The Vicar is put squarely in the middle and everyone seems to think that Lori can solve all their problems.

Lori struggles to balance motherhood and investigate with mysterious events in the village.  There’s been a theft at the vicarage.  Christine Peacock has seen aliens and has circle indentation in the grass to back up her story.  Mr. Wetherhead has seen a ghost creeping around the vicarage at midnight.

Will Lori be able to solve the mysteries and save the Village Fair?  Will she ever figure out what is going on with her new Nanny and the archaeologist?

This is a delightfully fun book to read.  I don’t really remember is there are any bad words.  Just be prepared to loud off out!
